The IHKs in North Rhine-Westphalia - in our case the IHK Siegen - offer the qualification to become an energy scout in association with the Effizienz-Agentur NRW and the EnergieAgentur.NRW.
Trainees work as energy scouts in their training companies to help identify and document potential energy savings and encourage improvements. Together with their head of training or an energy representative in the company, the trainees are to design and implement their own energy efficiency project. They receive the necessary knowledge and skills as part of the qualification measure, which includes three workshops.
Three of our trainees enjoyed taking part in this project. Inspired by what they had learned, the new energy scouts took a tour of the company and found some interesting energy-saving potential.
By switching to LED lighting and switching off the existing permanent lighting, almost 90% of the electricity costs in this area could be saved. In the company's gym, they discovered a television that was running continuously to display the daily training schedule. There is also potential for savings here. In addition, compressed air losses could be reduced: By using an ultrasonic testing device, some leaks in the production area were discovered and at the same time fixed by the trainees themselves. Thanks to the trainees, significant savings have also been made here.
With our existing activities and the support of the new energy scouts, we are confident that we will achieve continuous environmental improvement and a further reduction in CO2 emissions.
We would like to thank our motivated trainees for their active participation in the Energy Scouts project and their innovative suggestions for improvement. The first of these have already been successfully implemented.
