UMIX® universal mixers

Original design Werner & Pfleiderer

UMIX® – Universal mixer: The specialist for demanding compounds

The UMIX® series comprises high-performance universal mixers with a working volume ranging from 0.25 litres to 4,300 litres, making them suitable for applications ranging from laboratory use to large-scale industrial production.

The UMIX® is ideally suited for mixing and kneading low- to high-viscosity materials in sectors such as the rubber, silicone, plastics, paints, adhesives, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food and general chemical industries.

  • Versatile application: Suitable for a wide range of materials and processes.

  • Flexible discharge options: Product discharge via trough tilting, discharge screw or bottom valves. The swivel angle of at least 110° aids in the discharge of the mixture.

  • Process control: Temperature-controlled troughs, rotors, discharge screw and screw tubes enable precise temperature control of the mixing process.

  • Service & spare parts: Spare parts and services such as inspections, commissioning and installation are available for our own machines as well as for universal kneaders from the brands ‘Werner & Pfleiderer’ and ‘Coperion’

Discharge screw

Bottom valves

Machines fitted with a discharge screw are used where the product is shaped for the next processing stage or as a finished product. The screw is positioned centrally in the trough underneath the rotors; it rotates reverse during mixing. The screw can be customised to the customer’s specifications.

Once mixing is complete, pumpable mixtures are discharged via connected pipework and fed to the next processing stage.

Together we find a better way.

The best and most efficient rubber and plastics processing solutions.

All the facts about the UMIX® at a glance:
  1. Two mixing and kneading blades arranged in parallel

  2. Water or heat transfer oil temperature control of the mixing chamber

  3. Mixing chamber made of carbon or stainless steel (duplex steel on request), depending on the properties of the material being mixed

  4. Various blade geometries – tailored to your processes

  5. Optional: temperature-controlled blades for processing temperature-sensitive products (from UMIX® 80 upwards)

In addition to the dispersion and distribution of the ingredients in the batch process, the design of the machines allows further process steps to be carried out simultaneously during mixing, such as:

  • Plasticising

  • Homogenising

  • Melting

  • Cooling

  • Degassing/evaporation of volatile components

  • Evaporation

  • Dissolving

  • Reacting

UMIX® production machines are manufactured with working volumes starting from 20 litres. All machines with a working volume of 80 litres or more are equipped with individually driven rotors which, in combination with the speed control included as standard, allow the speed and friction of the blades to be freely adjusted, thereby enabling optimal adaptation to existing and future customer processes

Key advantages of the UMIX® series

1. Versatile application

UMIX® universal mixers are suitable for a wide range of industries and their specific mixing processes, such as food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, as well as for PVC and silicone compounds. The range of compounds that can be produced reaches from low- to high-viscosity and from sticky to powdery/dust-dry.

2. Homogeneous mixing processes

Thanks to powerful drives and the optimised geometry of the mixing and kneading tools, combined with effective temperature control, the required homogeneity and quality of the compounds can be achieved in a short time. (This can be further improved by vacuum mixing)

3. Flexible plant design

The universal mixers can be individually integrated into existing production lines, including those with existing conveying systems – from laboratory scale to large-scale production.

4. Material compatibility

As standard, all components in contact with the product are made from high-quality, corrosion-resistant steel (1.4404 or equivalent).

5. Batch documentation

The ADVISE® control system developed by HF supports seamless process monitoring and logging for reliable quality control and traceability.

6. Maintenance-optimised original design

Thanks to the original WP design, mixers can be easily replaced or overhauled without having to completely rethink processes and recipes. This is particularly important for certified mixing processes: a new mixer can be manufactured with the exact same characteristics as the existing mixer.
