MY EXPERIENCE
About a year ago I wondered whether it would be possible to spend some time abroad during my training. I couldn't imagine that my suggestion would go down so well by the management, but I received positive feedback very quickly. Everything was set in motion and on June 25th the time finally came: departure to the USA.
Mesabi gave me a very warm welcome. It started with a short tour of the office and the small workshop. My colleagues introduced themselves and I started helping in the panel shop. The time was great fun and I was able to develop myself in a number of areas. Among other things, I improved my English and my understanding of electrical engineering.
During these 5 weeks I mainly assembled switch cabinets, with everything that goes with them. Incoming goods and inspection were part of my tasks. My American colleagues did their best to ensure that I didn't lack anything. They also spent some time with me on the weekends and showed me around, as unfortunately I didn't have a rental car.
After about 2 weeks, Doug Hinterliter asked me if I would like to fly to Boston and be part of the assembly on site. Of course I immediately accepted the offer and flew there with a colleague.
There wasn't much for me to do on the assembly site. I hadn't had anything to do with I/O checks up to that point. However, the knowledge I had gained so far from the training helped me to understand pretty much everything.
After 1.5 weeks of vacation, I flew back to Minneapolis to start my journey home to Germany.
It was a great experience and I would like to thank everyone who made it possible for me. Thank you so much!
STAY IN MINNEAPOLIS
During my time in Minneapolis, I lived in a hotel with a small kitchen. Colleagues gave me a ride to work every day and brought me back to the hotel.
MESABI OFFICE IN MINNEAPOLIS
